Mindfulness, Why It’s Not

I keep running into this concept. For instance, I had dinner with a social worker, anxious about meeting me in public off a dating site. She said she was recommending mindfulness meditation to all her clients for their anxiety

I asked, ‘How do you do it?’. She didn’t know. Take a course I guess.

Turns out you focus on the here and now. Much like driving. It’s sold as a cure for anxiety and depression.

At one time I taught heavy equipment driving as one of my day gigs as an artist. If you are not in the here and now you run an 8-ton block of steel up somebody’s rear end.

Lots of anxious and depressed drivers pay attention. 99.9% of all drivers 99.9% of the time. Yet they are still anxious and depressed.

Basically, it’s the same old carnival grounds snake oil scam.

  • You are broken (Anything that puts you down is abuse)
  • I’ve got something to fix it (I’ve got more power than you)
  • It’s gonna cost you money (Rape your finances)
  • You have to keep coming back (Because it doesn’t work, and I want your money)

Medicine is committed to Do No Harm. When you don’t come back that’s because you are cured. Them doctors like that. In my civilized country, (Canada), it’s free.

Here is a free link to help you if you need it from time to time like any imperfect human being.
